India retained its 131st position among 145 countries. According to the WEF, India's overall progress towards gender parity stood at 64.5%.
Iceland remained at the top of the global ranking, followed by Finland and Norway.
The report evaluates gender gaps in areas such as economic participation, education, health and political empowerment.
The WEF's country profile says India's strongest long-term gains have been particularly visible in educational attainment, while economic participation and labour-force participation remain important areas of the gender-gap assessment.
